ISIS President Obama declared a new war on terrorism against ISIS. Similar to many other countries in the area, Siria was experiencing "Arab Spring"-a series of revolutions that began in north africa.
Though the group was radical, they did not garner much attention until April 2013. When the islamic state of Iraq decided to join forces with Jabhat-Al Nurse they formed a new organization that he called the Islamic state of Iraq and Al-Sham.
No matter what they are called, the one thing that was becoming apparant is that they had expanded its control fast. ISIS had been grabing headlines with the public beheadings of journalists. The only way to defeat them is by developing ground troops.
